Pelinkovac and Amaro H&K 1382: Tradition and Artisanal Taste

An Idea with Ancient Roots, Born from Family Memories

The inspiration for Heslop & Kaiser came almost by chance, evoking the stories of my grandparents, who over a hundred years ago, in their house in Pula, produced artisanal Pelinkovac. It was a family tradition, a ritual that intertwined passion and territory. From those memories, the idea of bringing back to light an ancient recipe that was at risk of disappearing, sprouted.

Passion, Madness and Artisan Care for a Trieste Project

Carrying out this project required not only a lot of passion, but also a pinch of madness. Here, in our Trieste, we follow every step with care: from the production of our artisanal bitters, to the creation of the brand, to the design of the labels, every detail is designed to celebrate the authenticity and quality of Heslop & Kaiser .

  • The Pelinkovac H&K is a handcrafted herbal liqueur that revisits a family recipe passed down orally from the maternal grandmother, originally from Pula. From this heritage, we have created a Pelinkovac with an authentic yet revitalized taste, with a touch of modernity and freshness. Notes of savory and elderberry bring a fresh and aromatic aroma, while cherry juice replaces the traditional caramel, lightening and balancing the flavor for a more refined experience.

  • Amaro H&K 1382 is born from a deep bond with the Trieste territory, with its native herbs and with the sea. A recipe that celebrates the love for Trieste and brings with it authentic scents, flavors and sensations. H&K 1382 is not just a bitter, but an experience to be savored over and over again, an invitation to discover the true soul of Trieste in every sip.

  • This is how two unique, hand-crafted products were born, which enclose all the flavour of tradition: Pelinkovac and the bitter H&K 1382. Each of them represents a tribute to Trieste, to its Central European roots and to the history that these artisanal bitters carry with them.

About us..

There seems to be an interesting historical connection that links the names Heslop and Kaiser to the traditions of Pula and Trieste. The surname Kaiser is linked to the city of Pula, where the ancestors came from Vienna, and family stories pass down the art of distilling Pelinkovac as a domestic practice.

The surname Heslop, on the other hand, has origins in the north-east of England, in Newcastle upon Tyne. In 1700, a branch of the family moved to Trieste, attracted by the economic expansion of the Free Port. In Newcastle, the Heslops were prominent shipowners, but the attempt to expand the business to Trieste did not have the hoped-for success. Subsequently, the surname was Italianized to "Esopi" during the 1930s.

This story encompasses cultural and commercial influences that reflect the richness of European connections, from Vienna to the UK and the Mediterranean. Good social content could tell how these roots have influenced the passion for spirits, tying it to the idea of preserving and transmitting authentic and transnational family traditions.

The energy of the new generation

Father and son, Paolo and Tobia, are the beating heart of the new era of Heslop & Kaiser. With passion and dedication, they are carrying on the family name, innovating without ever betraying tradition.

United by their love for the land and a common vision, they look to the future with the enthusiasm of those who know that every drop counts.

Together, Paolo and Tobia not only preserve the value of tradition, but enrich it with new ideas and a modern vision.

Each bottle tells their passion, ready to be shared with anyone who wants to discover an authentic piece of history and flavor.

Be wise, stock up on owls

Every element of our project has a meaning, and the symbol we have chosen is an example of this. The owl, an icon of wisdom and ancient guardian of our family history, represents our identity.

For over thirty years, small owl-shaped objects have populated our home, resisting numerous moves and maintaining their symbolic value intact. For us, owls are bearers of wisdom and good luck, a reminder of tradition and a wish for the future.
